Places to Visit - Cabo Roig, Costa Blanca, Spain

Author: Steve Locke

Cabo Roig is an exclusive resort on the southern Costa Blanca with fabulous, clean "blue flag" beaches and stunning views of the clear blue mediterranean. There is a superb cliff walk to La Zenia and there are many secluded coves where you can catch the sun with very little company, even in the high season. If you prefer to catch something a little different, the fishing is also very good and the dorada in particular give a good fight on light gear. The water is clear and superb for snorkeling and spear fishing. Water skiing, wind surfing, jet skiing and boat-hire are other popular activities available in the area, although soaking up the sun seems to be the most popular! Cabo Roig is a mature and established area with attractive palm lined avenues.

The area enjoys over 300 days of sunshine each year and an average temperature in the 20's. Cabo Roig boasts some famous inhabitants, with the likes of Cilla Black and Terry Wogan owning homes there. Cabo Roig is easily accessible from both Alicante and Murcia airports, Murcia (San Javier) being the closest taking around 20 minutes by car.and it is only a five minute drive to the nearest motorway.

Also in close proximity are 3 popular golf courses at Villa Martin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas, all within ten minutes drive. There are a huge variety of bars and restaurants in the area, particularly on Cabo Roig strip (sometimes called "Aguamarina strip") offering a wide range of cuisines including Spanish, Italian, French, Mexican, Chinese, Greek, Hungarian and of couse English and Irish. You may just wish to spend lazy days on the beaches or by the pool but if your desires are for adventure there is plenty to whet any appetite. If your taste is for culture the ancient cities of Cartagena, Murcia, Orihuela and Elche are all within an hours drive.

The younger at heart may wish to take a trip to the bustling resort of Benidorm, a journey of around an hour and a half. Sporting enthusiasts may partake of the golfing, the water sports (the water sport resort of La Manga is only a 40 minute trip), the fishing or maybe have a try at the go-karts in nearby Punta Prima. Young or old, individuals, couples or families, whatever your tastes and interests are you will surely to find something to your liking in the hugely popular resort of Cabo Roig - the jewel of the Costa Blanca.
